Date: Friday 29 June Time: 9.30am Registration Venue: Jurys Inn Hinckley Island, Watling Street, Hinckley, LE10 3JA
After taking a break in 2017, the IQL UK Technical Conference and Awards are back with a bang this summer – Friday 29 June at Hinckley Island. Sister conference to our Annual Conference on Saturday and Sunday, the focus will be on Trainer development and will feature a series of keynote industry speakers who are leaders in their field. The fantastic line-up includes the UK’s only Professor in Clinical Traumatology, a British Academy Award winner who has created an innovative virtual-reality app teaching CPR to save lives, a world-leading drowning prevention academic and the co-founder of the world’s most advanced emergency alerting and dispatching platform. If that wasn’t enough for one day, the conference also welcomes motivational speakers from the world of international sport and are extremely knowledgeable and entertaining Chief Medical Adviser, Dr Anthony Handley. In support, the conference will host a number of trade exhibitors, with plenty of opportunity to view new products and systems that support drowning prevention. To round-off the jam-packed day, the evening promises a relaxed, light-hearted environment to network and enjoy the awards dinner; celebrating the hard work and achievements made by Lifeguards, Trainer Assessors and National Trainer Assessors across the UK.

    RLSS UK Conference

Building on the success of recent years, the RLSS UK Conference is returning to Hinckley Island this summer, taking place on Saturday 30 June – Sunday 1 July. Over the past year, we have been busy listening to you and your experience whilst volunteering and participating in RLSS UK activity. This year we are committed to making good on our promises of delivering more and better resources, tools and awards for you to continue and grow your lifesaving activities, and we have lots of exciting new opportunities to introduce! This year’s conference will showcase the outputs of the Non-Vocational award programme including how to integrate these into your activity, new initiatives such as Club 2020, and the ongoing membership review. By signing up for a variety of keynotes and interactive workshops, delegates will enhance their understanding of how best to engage with these new initiatives and build on the excellent work that is currently undertaken. We’ll be joined by keynote speakers at the top of their field of expertise who will leave you, as a delegate, brimming with enthusiasm and determined to succeed in your own endeavours. The event will allow plenty of opportunity for networking, with the return of the branch challenge, a trade exhibition and a fun-filled evening to let your hair down and catch up with friends, old and new, from across the UK.

This year our Honours ceremony will take place on Saturday 13 October at the Worcester Cathedral.

The annual National Honours Ceremony is designed to say thank you to all who contribute to a reduction in drowning in the UK and Ireland. The concept underlying the Honours system is that length of service and meritorious work should each be recognised separately. There are, therefore, two series of Honours – Service Honours and Merit Honours. Each series is independent of the other and each has different criteria for eligibility. Individuals may, and often will, hold both Service and Merit Honours and could receive one of each in a single year.  It should be emphasised that both Service Honours and Merit Honours have equal value and are awarded in recognition of valuable work done to support the aims of the Society. The Honours process also includes a series of Special Trophies and Awards. We invite all members to nominate individuals and groups who are considered worthy of recognition. For more information on each Honours category and to submit Honours click on the tabs below. Download the 2018 Honours GuidelinesPlease refer to the Honours Flowchart for further assistance. Friends of the Society nomination forms are available here.
